This is kbd-0.83.tar.gz (derived from Risto Kankkunen's kbd-0.81
and Eugene Crosser's patches).

[Similar things were done earlier by
 Joel Hoffman (joel@wam.umd.edu) : codepage,
 Jerry Kaidor (tr2!jerry@abekas.com, jkaidor@synoptics.com) : fontpak,
Peter Anvin (hpa@nwu.edu) and Pavel Zaboj (xzaboj@vse.cs)
but none of their code was used, except that the actual EGA loading
code is common to all sources. The reference seems to be:
"From _Video Systems_, p. 307.".
However, I took the *.psf fonts from SLS:/etc/national/fonts.]

It contains keytable files and keyboard utilities compatible with
kernel version 0.99pl14n and probably some newer ones. In fact,
there are some features in this package, like the font loading
and meta key setting, that are not yet supported in version 0.99pl14n,
but will hopefully be in some future compatible version.
[Kernel patches for 0.99pl14x are included.]

This distribution contains no binaries - the sources try to adapt
to kernel version by using #ifdef for various ioctl's, so compile
them yourself.
To install this package, unpack it somewhere and issue the command
"make install". This copies the utilities to /usr/bin, man pages
to /usr/man/man{1,5,8} and data files to the subdirectories
keytables, consolefonts and consoletrans of /usr/lib/kbd.
